The Butterfly Effect

The Butterfly Effect is a wonderful inspiration by Trudi Sissons who stumbled upon a project called The Butterfly Project hosted by The Holocaust Museum Houston in Texas, USA. The Butterfly Project mandate is to remember the 1,500,000 innocent children who perished as a result of the Holocaust by collecting 1.5 million handmade butterflies. In Spring 2013, these butterflies will then become a break-taking exhibition to serve as a memory of this event.

Why a butterfly? Read on the poem below:

I Never Saw Another Butterfly
The last, the very last,

So richly, brightly, dazzlingly yellow
Perhaps if the sun’s tears would sing
against a white stone….

Such, such a yellow
Is carried lightly ’way up high.
It went away I’m sure
because it wished
to kiss the world good-bye.

For seven weeks I’ve lived in here
Penned up inside this ghetto.
But I have found what I love here.
The dandelions call to me
And the white chestnut branches in the court.

Only I never saw another butterfly.
That butterfly was the last one.
Butterflies don’t live in here, in the ghetto.

Written  by Pavel Friedman, June 4, 1942

Born in Prague on Jan. 7, 1921.
Deported to the Terezin Concentration Camp on April 26, 1942.
Died in Aushchwitz on Sept. 29, 1944.

I created a heart on the upper portion of this butterfly and painted it with watercolors and then created a jeweled-like mosaic on the lower part using magazine cutouts. This butterfly is a symbol of love. The core message that it speaks of is that God is watching over us everyday.

I commemorate this butterfly to the victims of the holocaust. Wherever they are right now I pray that they are at peace.

Now I am holding this delicate creature on my palm ready to let it fly. Care to join and create one? Details are on the Butterfly Effect link above or click on the sidebar to join.

God bless everyone!

Love is.

RealLove copy2 791x1024 Love is.

The most beautiful definition of love for me is the one from 1 Corinthians 13:4.

This is the first greeting card that I have created which I won’t be able to include on my A Card for a Cause since I have forgotten to set the resolution to 300 dpi. (Do you know if there’s away to still print them with an okay quality?) It’s quite sad for me but I am happy to be able to share this with all of you.

My artworks are always inspired by anything related to the beauty of life and the goodness of God.

I had this vision of a couple holding hands showing their silhouette. It took me almost an entire day drafting this piece in PhotoShop (difficult to draw weaved hands but love it!) then coloring it and putting some light. Looking at this piece made me feel the one that I hold hands with. Can you feel the love?

I stumbled upon 2 insights related to Love:

(1) We don’t hurt the people that we love; so if someone is willing to hurt you, it goes to show that he or she doesn’t love you.

(2) When you truly care for someone, their mistake never changes our feelings because it is the mind that gets angry but the heart still cares.

For the first insight I am not sure if I will be in agreement with it since love has its trials and one way or another one of us can hurt or get hurt. I do want to believe that we should not hurt the one we love. But how is that possible not to happen?

The second insight truly happens in love. That point when you feel so angry that the world might end anytime but after a few hours your heart returns to its normal speed, tears dried and you can’t help but think about him or her.

We are taught by God to love one another as He have loved us. At the end of the day, we can’t let it go by without saying how much we love and appreciate the people we hold dearly in our hearts.

To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you. (C.S. Lewis)

A Card for a Cause

Ever since Harmony Thoughts started last April 2011 it has been a huge blessing to me in so many ways–giving a bit of inspiration to others and in their creative endeavors as well as fulfilling my creative dreams. As a way to expand my horizon but more importantly so to extend some help to our poor brothers and sisters I will be creating one greeting card at a time and selling it for a cause.

I have always wanted to sell my artworks to inspire others but did not have any idea where to start and or the courage to do so until one of my good and creative friend Tel inspires me to make cards, sell it and donate the proceeds to charity. After much consideration, planning and praying I made my first card. However, there will always be challenges and the first card that I have made might not be included (I’m afraid so) due to low resolution. I forgot to change its resolution to 300 dpi thereby it won’t look good when printed. Moving on…

The above is a greeting card inspired by a withered flower which I have created in PhotoShop. I learned the meaning of re-purposing through Kat Wright on her Tic Tocc 19. We have to find any object in our piles of junks and make it into an inspiration for our creations.

I did not stand up to rummage through my things but instead I just look around my desk and found this withered yellow flower that my bf gave to me. I love collecting old stuffs and withered plants are no exceptions. I begin creating this fresh flower giving it life then experimenting with various pastel colors. Before I knew it, this piece is slowly evolving into a greeting card. I wrote 6 inspiring words then type in some text below. I added some random snowflakes. I love the simplicity of this card.

My greeting cards are created with inspiration from the things around me and always with a touch of God’s inspiration. I hope to be able to make a lot and finish in time for Christmas. All proceeds will go to Project Pearl feeding program.

I am sharing this with Kat Wright–thank you! Please join in her prompts! Also I am sharing this in advance at Paint Party Friday.

If you have any advice or tips on selling or making greeting cards–printing, pricing, materials etc– I would really love to hear about it.

I have a lot of work to do. I hope I can do this. I hope for you and God’s support.  Have a blessed week!
