Despite the prickly appearance, cactus is beautiful. Somehow the cactus’ thorns reminded me of the armor of God.
Ephesians 6:13-18
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.
The thorns that protect the cactus from predators is like the armor of God that helps Christians stand against the schemes of the devil. As long as we are on earth we will be in constant battle against the spiritual forces of evil. Therefore we need to wear God’s armor in all circumstances. Moreover, as the thorns prevent loss of water (and give shade) for the cactus so that they can survive in the desert so the armor of God can nourish God’s people and help us live and fight a good fight of faith.
Like the cactus we are becoming more and more beautiful as God continue to sanctify us in Christ Jesus .
